USD Pole Vaulters Compete at World Championships

VERMILLION, S.D. – University of South Dakota Track and Field members Emily Grove and Chris Nilsen will represent the United States as members of Team USA at the 2017 IAAF World Championships in London this weekend.

Grove, a four-time Summit League pole vault champion, will compete this Friday, Aug 4, in the qualifying round. She is the 2017 Summit League Outdoor Field Athlete of the Year.

Nilsen, Team USA’s only freshman, will compete in the pole vault qualifying round Sunday, Aug 6. He won the 2017 NCAA Indoor Championship contest and placed third at the Outdoor Championships earning the 2017 Summit League Indoor and Outdoor Field Athlete of the Year honors.

USD joins Georgia as the only universities with both a male and female athlete competing at the London meet for Team USA.
