Students from The U to meet with billionaire Warren Buffett |
|
| VERMILLION, S.D. -- Learning innovative business practices and philosophies in a classroom is one thing. Getting sage advice from one of the world’s wealthiest people is another, but 27 students from the Beacom School of Business at The University of South Dakota will have that opportunity when they meet with Omaha businessman Warren Buffett next month. |
| |
| Although the CEO of Berkshire Hathaway limits his meetings with college students and faculty each year, this will be the third time in four years that Buffett has met with representatives from USD, including students from The U’s Financial Management Association International (FMA) chapter.
"The fact that Zhao Danyang, a general manager at the Pure Heart China Growth Investment Fund, paid $2.1 million in a charity auction to have lunch with Warren Buffett in 2008 illustrates what an extraordinary opportunity this is for Beacom School of Business students," stated Angeline Lavin, Ph.D., professor of finance, M.B.A. and M.P.A. program director at The U. "Mr. Buffett is a humble and engaging man with strong Midwestern roots, and his message to the students is that they will find happiness and success if they pursue a career they love."
In addition to a 90-minute question and answer session with Buffett on Feb. 6, the USD contingency will also dine with the "Oracle of Omaha" at Piccolo Pete’s in Omaha, and tour both Nebraska Furniture Mart and Borsheim’s Jewelry – Berkshire Hathaway-owned companies.
