| Beta Alpha Psi is the International Honorary Organization for Financial Information Professionals. The international "Superior Chapter" designation was recently bestowed on USD's BAP chapter during an announcement at the national meeting of BAP in Brooklyn, N.Y. Criteria for this award include successful professional meetings, regional competition success and community service. In addition to receiving superior chapter recognition, the USD chapter also received a $400 check from KPMG, a global network of professional services firms.
During the 2008-09 academic year, USD BAP members organized several meetings on campus with accounting and business professionals. They also hosted various presentations from companies such as Eide Bailly, Deloitte, RSM McGladrey, Daktronics, FDIC, IRS,and the Office of the Controller of Currency. Additionally, USD chapter members participated in community service activities, including assisting low income and elderly with their taxes during the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance program, the Coyoteopoly food drive, Adopt-A-Highway highway clean-up, CPA Night, an accounting summer camp and the financial literacy project.
"This award is a testimonial to the hard work and dedication of Beacom School of Business students who are officers and members of BAP," stated Srini Ragothaman, Ph.D., professor of accounting at USD and BAP advisor. "We are lucky to have an enthusiastic officer group who made this happen."
Being recognized for academics, professionalism and leadership is nothing new to The U’s Theta Upsilon chapter, who meet annually with representatives from leading public accounting firms and private companies.
