Season tickets now on sale for USD Theatre’s 2009-10 season |
| VERMILLION, S.D. -- The University of South Dakota Department of Theatre is pleased to announce its 2009-2010 season which opens with Alan Ball’s comedy “Five Women Wearing the Same Dress,” Oct. 14-18. Ball, who has received critical acclaim for his work in film and television, fashions a hilarious and touching celebration of women’s spirit in this story that centers on five, reluctant bridesmaids who hide out in an upstairs bedroom during a society wedding reception. “Five Women Wearing the Same Dress” contains strong language and mature themes. |
| The Department soars into the holiday season Dec. 4-8 with "Peter Pan," one of the world's most celebrated musicals. Written by J.M. Barrie with music and lyrics by Jule Styne, Betty Comden and Adolph Green, "Peter Pan" provides the whole family with a thrilling holiday treat as they accompany Peter Pan, Tinker Bell, the Darling Family and Captain Hook on an amazing adventure. ZFX Flying Effects from Louisville, Ky., will assist University Theatre in creating a thrilling visual experience for audiences.
"A Chorus Line," winner of nine Tony Awards and the Pulitzer Prize for Drama, brings a crowd of dancers who are competing for eight spots in a chorus line to the stage, Feb. 26-March 2. With music and lyrics by Marvin Hamlisch and Edward Kleban, "A Chorus Line" is a heartfelt salute to the Broadway gypsy. The season closes April 21-25 with "Fat Pig" by Neil LaBute. In this social drama with mature themes, LaBute examines Hollywood standards of beauty through the relationship of Tom and his plus-sized girlfriend, Helen. LaBute, whose plays have been nominated for a number of Tony Awards, has received high praise from critics for his “edgy and unsettling portrayals of human relationships.” All performances are in the Wayne S. Knutson Theatre with evening performances scheduled at 7:30 p.m. and Sunday matinees at 2 p.m. Season tickets, which represent a 25 percent savings over standard ticket prices, are $34 for adults, $22 for youth (k-12) and non-USD students, and $14 for USD students with a valid ID.
