|
| VERMILLION, S.D. -- The University of South Dakota Department of Theatre will begin hosting auditions for “Peter Pan,” J.M. Barrie’s celebrated musical that follows the thrilling adventures of Peter Pan, Tinker Bell, the Darling Family and Captain Hook. |

| Auditions for adult characters in "Peter Pan" are Sept. 21-22 from 5 to 9 p.m. in the Arena Theatre in the Warren M. Lee Center for the Fine Arts. Auditions, open to all members of the community, must include singing, and a brief interview and improvisation. Actors will present 16 to 32 bars from two memorized songs that include an up tempo ballad and one song from the classical musical theatre genre. To reserve a specific audition time, interested parties are asked to sign up on the theatre callboard in the east hallway of the Fine Arts building. Actors are required to bring their sheet music; an accompanist will be provided.
Auditions for the roles of Michael, John and the Lost Boys, will be on Thursday, Sept. 24 at 6 p.m. in the Wayne S. Knutson Theatre. These auditions are open to male youth (grades 2-8) with unchanged voices. All youth should come at 6 p.m. and be prepared to sing a familiar song.
Rehearsals will begin in early October. There will be no rehearsals Nov. 25-27 for the Thanksgiving holiday. All members of the cast must be available from Nov. 28 through the run of the show. Performances are Dec. 3-5 and Dec. 7-8 at 7:30 p.m., Dec. 6 at 2 p.m., and Dec. 7 at 10 a.m.
Questions regarding auditions can be directed to Nanette Hofer, assistant professor of theatre and the stage and music director of “Peter Pan,” at (605) 677-5905 or nhofer@usd.edu.
