USD hosts groundbreaking ceremony for Coyote Village |
| VERMILLION, S.D. -- The University of South Dakota is celebrating Coyote Village, The U’s new apartment-style residence hall complex, with an official groundbreaking ceremony at 2 p.m. on Monday, Sept. 21, at the site of the new facility just south of the DakotaDome. |
| Coyote Village is a $26.8 million, 195,708 square-foot housing complex currently under construction. An eagerly anticipated addition to the USD campus, it is expected to open in the fall of 2010. USD President James W. Abbott, Richard Van Den Hul, USD’s vice president of finance and administration, and Curt Fowler, vice president, Ambling University Development Group, are scheduled to speak at the groundbreaking ceremony.
"Coyote Village is a project that we're all very excited about and it's coming at a great time," noted Jeff Baylor, acting vice president of marketing, enrollment and student services at USD. "It's a premiere location, next to the Dome and the future Student Wellness Center, and within walking distance of the entire campus." Developed by Ambling University Development Group, an industry leader in student housing, Coyote Village, when completed, will have 175 units with 550 beds, including two- and four-bedroom options for students. Super suite units will be equipped with kitchenettes, including full-sized refrigerators, a microwave and a sink. Apartment units will feature full kitchens with refrigerators, a microwave, range stove and a sink. Units will have one bathroom per two students while four-bedroom units will include two bathrooms. Inside each fully furnished unit, students will have hardwired Internet access to each single-occupied bedroom. Wireless Internet access will be available throughout the building. Coyote Village will also have lounge areas for students, a central laundry facility, tanning booths, a convenience store, and SMART classroom and online gaming station technology. Outside, Coyote Village will feature beautiful landscaping and multiple outdoor courtyard areas.
