USD Art Department, University Galleries hosts Alumni exhibit |
| VERMILLION, S.D. -- The University Art Galleries and the Department of Art at The University of South Dakota will host a reception at 7 p.m. for the Alumni Exhibition on Oct. 9 in the John A. Day Gallery. |
| As part of the 2009 Dakota Days Homecoming celebration, the exhibition features works from 88 alumni, including painting, photography, sculpture, drawing, ceramics, printmaking and mixed media.
“This is the best alumni show that I can remember,” stated Cory Knedler, chair of the USD Art Department. “It truly reflects the creativity of our graduates over the years, and pays dividends to the art faculty who has helped shape these artists into the people they have become.” The show displays work of BFA and MFA graduates in the USD Department of Art. Some of the artwork includes paintings by Bruce Preheim (’70) and Stanley Peterson (’69), and recent graduates, including a mixed media piece on Mylar by Eli Show (’08) and a painting by Megan Dirks (’09). Three current faculty members who are also graduates of the program and have work in the show are Knedler, Christopher Meyer, sculpture, and Johntimothy Pizzuto, printmaking. “Hanging a show of this magnitude was an incredibly daunting task,” said Eddie Welch, director of the University Art Galleries and curator of the Alumni Exhibition. “It turned out great, though. I encourage the entire campus community to see the exhibition and, of course, join us for the celebratory festivities on Oct. 9.” The two-hour reception will have food and refreshments provided free of charge by the Coffee Shop Gallery. |
