James Mirehouse recipient of Distinguished Service Award at USD’s Beacom School of Business |
| VERMILLION, S.D. -- The Beacom School of Business at The University of South Dakota presented James H. Mirehouse with its Distinguished Service Award: Service to South Dakota Business during the Beacom School of Business Board of Governors annual awards luncheon on Friday, Oct. 9. |
| Mirehouse, past president of the South Dakota Bankers Association, began his prominent professional career as a pilot in the United States Air Force. He served in the Air Force from 1955 to 1977 and retired in 1997 as a wing commander at the rank of colonel. While in the military, Mirehouse was a decorated pilot. He completed more than 100 missions over North Vietnam as a tactical fighter flight commander and his decorations include the Silver Star, Legion of Merit, Bronze Star and Distinguished Flying Cross.
A graduate of Troy State University with a bachelor of science degree in business and a distinguished graduate of the Department of Defense Senior Officer War College, Mirehouse enjoyed a distinguished career in the banking industry in Montana, Minnesota and in South Dakota where he served as U.S. Bancorp Worldwide branch president in Rapid City, S.D., for nearly a decade and as regional manager of U.S. Bancorp Worldwide in Sioux Falls, S.D., until his retirement in 2000. Mirehouse also dedicated his time to several community activities and civic organizations, including the Sioux Falls Area Chamber of Commerce, the Rapid City Economic Development Partnerships and regional manager of the Small Business Development Center for Western South Dakota. A member of the board of directors for Genesis Equity Fund LLC, the South Dakota Rural Enterprise and CEO of the Black Hills Business Development Center in Rapid City, Mirehouse is also adviser to the Lakota Funds.
