International Education Week celebrated at The U

VERMILLION, S.D. -- The University of South Dakota is celebrating International Education Week Oct. 26-30 with several programs designed to honor and promote global learning and educational exchange.

Activities include the first annual USD Study Abroad and Engagement Fair on Thursday, Oct. 29 where students can explore international and domestic off-campus study opportunities offered through Global Learning. From 10:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. on the main level of the Muenster University Center, students can learn more about study abroad programs. With more than 20 exhibitors presenting, students can find out about up-coming faculty-directed study tours, collect program information from several affiliate program providers, and hear stories from Global Learning Alumni.

Also scheduled during the week is a Go Global! international panel discussion, career development workshops for international students, faculty development sessions, and a movie night featuring "Anvil! The Story of Anvil!" The concluding event will be an International Friends Potluck at the Unity House on Friday, Oct. 30. For a detailed list of events scheduled for International Education Week, visit www.usd.edu/international-student-services/international-education-week.cfm.

USD provides comprehensive assistance and support for approximately 110 international students representing 27 countries. The University also has 10 exchange/partnership study abroad programs, is a member of the National Student Exchange consortium, and works with several study abroad program providers offering over 250 programs worldwide. Through faculty-led study tours organized in the USD Division for Continuing and Distance Education, students and faculty travel and learn together in places as diverse as France, Peru and China. This year, USD will offer more than 10 faculty-led study tours. USD sends more than 100 students on study abroad programs annually.

International Education Week is sponsored by the Graduate School, the Division of Continuing and Distance Education, and the Center for Academic Engagement (CAE). The CAE is the central point of contact for students interested in experiential learning, including service-learning, undergraduate research, study abroad, and other off-campus academic experiences.
