| More than 400 students from South Dakota, Iowa, Minnesota and Nebraska are expected for this year’s Veteran’s Day event, which begins with registration at the Muenster University Center at 8:30 a.m. followed by an event-filled day complete with several programs, including a keynote address by Dr. Joe Zenel, chief of the Department of Pediatrics and director of the Pediatric Residency Program at Sanford Children’s USD.
The Health Happenings & Scrubs Camp also features breakout session presentations by practicing professionals in specific health science interests such as clinical psychology, dental hygiene, nursing, nutrition, pharmacy, radiology, social work and physical therapy. In addition to the breakout session, camp participants will be able to meet with faculty and health care professionals, including Elizabeth Freeburg, Ph.D., USD Health Sciences, to find out how they can prepare for a rewarding career in health sciences. Additionally, students can discuss educational and career information with current USD students during the Student Organization Info Fair on the first floor of the Muenster University Center. Tours of the USD campus will also be provided and admissions counselors from The U’s Office of Admissions will be available to answer questions about the application process and scholarship opportunities.
“In addition to providing students with information on dozens of professions in health sciences, students will also learn more about the Honors Program and First Year Experience Program at USD,” said Stephanie Moser, director of admissions at USD. “This is a great day for USD to showcase our facilities, and our faculty and staff while also promoting exciting opportunities in health care.”
