USD professor president-elect of state NASW chapter

VERMILLION, S.D. -- Deb Aden, professor and director of field education for the Master of Social Work program at The University of South Dakota, has been named president-elect of the South Dakota chapter of the National Association of Social Workers (NASW).

Aden’s diverse career in social work includes working as a mental health therapist to teaching college students and preparing them for careers in social work. Aden, who received her master’s degree from the University of Nebraska-Omaha and her bachelor’s degree from University of Sioux Falls, has been a licensed certified social worker in South Dakota for more than 15 years. Additionally, she was executive director of a nonprofit agency that worked with domestic violence and sexual assault issues at the state and national level, and she served as a trainer for law enforcement officials on effectively serving victims of domestic violence and sexual assault.

“I am very excited, motivated and passionate about social work,” stated Aden, who taught upper level courses in social work at the University of Sioux Falls for a decade before coming to USD. “This is a tremendous opportunity for our state and I’m honored to be a part of this new endeavor.”

The NASW is the largest membership organization of professional social workers in the world with 56 chapters in the United States and abroad, including NASW-South Dakota which serves the needs of its members in the state to enhance the image and advance the interests of professional social workers, and to advocate and provide a voice for people in need.
