USD celebrates International Education Week

VERMILLION, S.D. -- The University of South Dakota is celebrating International Education Week, Sept. 26-30, with several unique activities.

Co-sponsored by the Center for Academic Engagement and the Division of Student Services, International Education Week features programs that broaden international and cultural awareness at USD, including a special performance by Darin Wadley and the Caribbean Steel Drum Group at 3 p.m. on Monday at the Muenster University Center as well as several forums and panel discussions about study abroad opportunities for USD students.

Activities begin at noon on Sept. 26 with “Changes in the Middle East,” an international forum sponsored by the Beacom School of Business, in Room 216 at the Muenster University Center followed by a 2 p.m. address at the Pit Lounge by Emily Haddad, associate dean of the College of Arts & Sciences, highlighting USD’s internationalization efforts.

Presentations on scholarships and financial aid, and panel discussions on international studies and foreign language are also part of International Education Week programming. Additional events include a Global Learning and Engagement Fair at 11 a.m. on Sept. 28, and the Global Palate and Photo Contest Display at 5 p.m. on Sept. 29 at the Muenster University Center Ballroom. The Global Palate is a free food event featuring appetizer-style dishes from around the world.

International Education Week, nationally, is a joint initiative between the U.S. Department of State and the U.S. Department of Education to promote programs that prepare Americans for a global environment and attract future leaders from abroad to study, learn and exchange experiences in the United States.
