Student artists from Sioux City featured at John A. Day Gallery

VERMILLION, S.D. -- Recent works by Sioux City artists Jeff Baldus and Jodi Whitlock will be on display in the exhibit, “Transfigurations,” April 2-6, at the John A. Day Gallery in the Warren M. Lee Center for the Fine Arts at USD. The show will feature mixed media sculptures and paintings completed in the past year.

Baldus and Whitlock will receive their M.F.A. degrees from USD in May. Baldus, whose M.F.A. emphasis is in sculpture and is regionally known for his pottery, serves as the chair of the Sioux City Art Center Board of Trustees. He is an assistant instructor in the art department at Briar Cliff University and an art editor of the Briar Cliff Review. For “Transfigurations,” he used natural materials to create organic sculptures exploring relationships between man and nature. Whitlock, whose emphasis is in painting, is an instructor of art at the Sioux City Art Center and an adjunct instructor at both Western Iowa Tech Community College and Morningside College. In the exhibit, she showcases works combining photography and mixed media in neutral colors.

A reception for Baldus and Whitlock, which is open to the public, is scheduled at the gallery from 5 to 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday, April 4.  The John A. Day Gallery is open weekdays from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
