‘In Transposition’ exhibition features USD students’ artistry

VERMILLION, S.D. -- The University of South Dakota Department of Art presents the exhibition, “In Transposition,” featuring the work of USD students Johnne Law McMahan, Zechariah Blasy, Paige Reinders, Jaymee Harvey and Anna Ayotte.

“In Transposition” showcases bodies of work that have been developed by these students during their undergraduate careers. The exhibition opens Monday, April 9 and goes through Friday, April 13 at the John A. Day Gallery. A closing reception for the artists is scheduled from 5 to 7:30 p.m. on April 13.

Ayotte, from Harrisburg, S.D., will graduate with her B.F.A. in Photography and K- 12 teaching certification in May.  Her exhibit focuses on reflections of nature while isolating fluidity within organic forms. Blasy, of Rapid City, S.D., will receive a B.F.A. in Painting next month. His work balances on the line between graffiti painting, street art and highbrow art. Harvey, from Maplewood, Minn., is also graduating with a B.F.A. in Painting. Her work reflects the local socioeconomic sphere where she lives and uses found objects as well as traditional painting methods. Reinders, from Ireton, Iowa, will graduate with a B.F.A. in Photography and enjoys mixing both dark room processes and digital media. Law McMahan, of Sioux Falls, S.D., will graduate with a B.F.A. in ceramics in May. His work is based in function, and focused on deconstruction of formal aesthetics while acknowledging the venerable history of clay.

“In Transposition” is open to the public from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday at the John A. Day Gallery, which is located in the Warren M. Lee Center for Fine Arts. For more information, please contact gallery director Alison Erazmus at Alison.Erazmus@usd.edu, or (605) 677-3177.
