“The Sioux Falls Sports Authority is very excited to partner with the University of South Dakota in an effort to continue to attract top sporting events to our city,” Sullivan said. “We certainly feel this will be a tremendous event for Sioux Falls and I would urge citizens to get their tickets as soon as possible. What a great matchup it will be.”
South Dakota was scheduled to host NDSU in Vermillion as part of five home games in 2012, but Sullivan and Sayler began discussing the opportunity to move the game to Sioux Falls in a joint effort and it took off from there.
“The University of South Dakota is proud to partner with the Sioux Falls Sports Authority on playing this game in Sioux Falls,” Sayler said. “The atmosphere will be fantastic and something all football fans will want to be a part of. Scheduling this game in Sioux Falls accomplishes three goals for the Coyotes in that it allows us to work toward our long term scheduling goals, it allows us to market our university directly into Sioux Falls and we align ourselves with great corporate support through the Sioux Falls Sports Authority.”
Single game tickets for the North Dakota State game are scheduled to go on sale Aug. 1 for $25 through the Coyote Ticket Office. Season tickets to all four USD games in the DakotaDome and the NDSU game are on sale now for $104. USD Faculty/Staff tickets are $89, while the Family Four Pack is $260. The Coyote Ticket Office is open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday in the DakotaDome or by calling (605) 677-5959.
The four home games in the DakotaDome this season includes battling Colgate Sept. 8 for the Hall of Fame Game, Illinois State comes to town Sept. 29, while Western Illinois comes for Dakota Days on Oct. 6 and Northern Iowa visits Vermillion Nov. 10
The Coyotes, who now are eligible for postseason play in every sport beginning in the fall, move into the Missouri Valley Football Conference this season after a 6-5 campaign in 2011 in the Great West Conference and were ranked as high as 14th nationally a year ago.
This is the first Coyote game to be played at Howard Wood since Oct. 20, 2007, when the DakotaDome was being renovated. In addition, this is the second straight season the Coyotes will battle the defending national champions as South Dakota upset then-No. 1-ranked and 2010 FCS National Champion Eastern Washington, 30-17, Sept. 10, 2011, in the DakotaDome.
The Coyotes are under the direction of first-year head coach Joe Glenn. South Dakota returns 33 letterwinners and 13 starters from last season’s team, including six all-conference selections highlighted by senior wide receiver and Sioux Falls native Will Powell and junior linebacker Tyler Starr (Little Rock, Iowa).
Along with Powell, the Coyotes have Sioux Falls natives in senior fullback Quintin McMartin, senior linebacker Tim Marlette and two Sioux Falls Washington recruits in linebackers Devon O’Farrell and Keyen Lage.
