USD student-athletes reach the top of the Summit League Distinguished Scholars list

VERMILLION, S.D. -- The University of South Dakota had a league-high 65 student-athletes named Academic All-League Distinguished Scholars for the winter and spring seasons the Summit League announced Thursday, June 14.

A total of 482 Summit League student-athletes from baseball, men’s and women’s basketball, men’s and women’s golf, softball, men’s and women’s swimming & diving, men’s and women’s tennis and men’s and women’s track & field were recognized as Distinguished Scholars.

In order to be named a Distinguished Scholar, a student-athlete must have at least a 3.60 grade-point average in the semester in which they compete and must use a year of athletic eligibility.

Student-athletes who qualified for the winter/spring list who earned a 4.0 for the spring semester included seniors Emma Ladwig (Gayville, S.D.), Lizz Hoffman (Eureka, S.D.) and Ryan Krysl (Omaha, Neb.); juniors Alexa Duling (Gregory, S.D.), Nicole Funck (Dakota Dunes, S.D.), and Megan Meyer (Bismarck, N.D.), sophomore Jeff Mettler (Eureka, S.D.); and freshmen Janice Baumberger (Indianapolis, Ind.), Jillane Doom (Wagner, S.D.), Brant Haase (Lemmon, S.D.), Josee Jansen (Sioux City, Iowa) and Tyler Sternhagen (Yankton, S.D.).
