USD chosen ‘one of nation’s best colleges’ by The Princeton Review

VERMILLION, S.D. -- The Princeton Review and its “The Best 377 Colleges: 2013 Edition” has named the University of South Dakota one of the nation’s best institutions for outstanding undergraduate education.

USD is the only college or university from South Dakota to be featured on this year’s prestigious list and earns praise for its honors program and for having a wide selection of quality academics. Students surveyed for the publication cited USD’s “great student to faculty communicative experience at a reasonable price” and for giving students “many options” in terms of majors and professional programs.

The Princeton Review ranking is yet another confirmation of the University of South Dakota’s ongoing commitment to educational excellence,” stated Jeff Baylor, vice president of marketing, enrollment and student services at USD. “Once again the ranking is recognition of our outstanding faculty and our commitment to student success that continues to make the University of South Dakota one of the nation’s best colleges.”

Only about 15 percent of America’s 2,500 four-year colleges and three colleges outside the United States are profiled in the guide. The Princeton Review does not rank the colleges academically or from 1 to 377 in any category. The lists are entirely based on The Princeton Review’s survey of 122,000 students attending the colleges and not on The Princeton Review's opinion of the schools. The 80-question survey asks students to rate their own schools on several topics and report on their campus experiences. Topics range from assessments of their professors to opinions about their financial aid and campus food.

All 377 of the colleges profiled can be found at www.princetonreview.com/rankingsbest.aspx. Available on newsstands today, “The Best 377 Colleges: 2013 Edition” is the 21st issue of The Princeton Review’s annual college guide.
