Celebrating ‘150 Years of Legacy’ during Dakota Days 2012

VERMILLION, S.D. -- The University of South Dakota will celebrate “150 Years of Legacy” for Dakota Days, Oct. 1-6.
 

Homecoming activities at USD will recognize the university’s 150th anniversary and celebrate USD’s Pride, Service, Community, Innovation, Inspiration and Tradition each day of the week. The schedule of events includes the Royalty Reveal at Aalfs Auditorium and a pep rally on the courtyard outside Slagle Hall at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 2; the Al Neuharth Award for Excellence in the Media presentation to Marilyn Hagerty (’48) at 7 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 4 at Aalfs Auditorium; and the dedication of “Legacy,” the USD coyote statue, at 11:30 a.m. on Friday, Oct. 5 on the campus mall east of the Muenster University Center.

Dakota Days events on Saturday, Oct. 6 begin with the 98th annual Dakota Days Parade (www.usd.edu/campus-life/dakota-days/parade.cfm) at 10 a.m. on Main Street with USD alums Tom (’64) and Meredith (’62) Brokaw serving as parade marshals. Following the parade, USD will host Western Illinois at 2 p.m. at the DakotaDome in a Missouri Valley Football Conference matchup.

Additional activities include comedian Anthony Jeselnik at 8 p.m. on Oct. 1 at Aalfs Auditorium; the book launch of “Pride, Persistence and Progress,” a 150-year pictorial history of USD, at 1:30 p.m. on Oct. 5 at the Muenster University Center; an Alumni Dinner at 5:30 p.m. on Oct. 5 at the Muenster University Center Ballroom followed by the D-Days Downtown Bash at 8:30 p.m. at the Eagles Club; class reunions for 1952, 1962 and 1972 graduates at noon on Oct. 6 at the Al Neuharth Media Center and at Beacom Hall; and fraternity and sorority open houses (Oct. 6), campus tours (Oct. 5) and the annual meeting of the Alumni Association (Oct. 5) at the Muenster University Center.
