HP executive, USD alum to present School of Business Dean’s Lecture

VERMILLION, S.D. -- The University of South Dakota Beacom School of Business will host a presentation by USD alum Paul Ellingstad, partner and program development director for HP’s Sustainability & Social Innovation team, at 4 p.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 15 at Houtz Auditorium, which is located inside Beacom Hall.

Ellingstad’s program, “People, Planet, Profit…What Matters?” is part of the 2013 Dean’s Lecture Series, and discusses how sustainability and corporate social responsibility have grown from a cost to business and more of a compliance activity, to a source of innovation and growth. The lecture is free and open to the public.

Ellingstad leads the ideation and start-up of strategic partnerships and programs within HP’s Sustainability & Social Innovation team. He played an integral role in HP’s social innovation strategy, “Creating Shared Value” in 2009, including leading the “green field” development of the global health strategy and programs. Ellingstad and his colleagues at HP work to drive sustainable improvements in health, education and the environment through technology and innovation. A First Movers fellow in the Aspen Institute’s Business and Society Program, Ellingstad earned his bachelor’s degree in economics and political science from USD in 1993. He currently lives in Ireland with his wife and three children. A photo of Ellingstad is available for download at www.usd.edu/press/news/images/releases/Paul_Ellingstad.jpg.
