World-renowned chemist to present 2013 Haines Lecture at USD

VERMILLION, S.D. -- Omar M. Yaghi, Ph.D., professor of chemistry at the University of California-Berkeley and the director for the Molecular Foundry at the Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory, will deliver the 2013 Haines Lecture, “Porous Crystals for Clean Energy,” at the University of South Dakota at 7 p.m. on Monday, April 22 at Churchill-Haines 118.
 

Yaghi, who has been on the faculties of Arizona State University, the University of Michigan and UCLA, has published more than 130 papers that have received over 180 citations per paper. He is listed as among the top two most highly cited chemists worldwide. Yaghi’s work encompasses the synthesis, structure and properties of inorganic compounds and the design and construction of new crystalline materials. He received his Ph.D. from the University of Illinois-Urbana, and was a National Science Foundation Postdoctoral Fellow at Harvard University. The Haines Lecture is sponsored by the USD Chemistry Department and was established in 1956 in honor of Arthur Lee Haines, a member of the USD Chemistry Department for 71 years.
