USD Sanford School of Medicine is one of nation’s most popular medical schools

VERMILLION, S.D. -- The University of South Dakota Sanford School of Medicine (SSOM) is again one of the top-10 most-popular medical schools in the nation, according to U.S. News & World Report. Schools appearing on the list are recognized for enrolling the highest percentage of accepted students – 74 percent or greater. SSOM ranked fifth among “10 Popular Med Schools for First-Year Students,” up two spots from last year. University of Kansas Medical Center topped the list.

“We continually strive toward excellence, and it is gratifying to see that our wonderful students recognize this and wish to take part in our tradition of producing world-class physicians,” said Mary Netttleman, M.D., M.S., M.A.C.P., dean of SSOM and USD’s vice president for Health Affairs.

U.S. News & World Report routinely recognizes The Sanford School of Medicine in its national lists. In March, the publication ranked the med school in its top 10 list for rural medicine—marking the fourth time in as many years the school has appeared on the list.
