Students to diagnose health sciences career opportunities at USD Health Happenings

VERMILLION, S.D. -- High school students from South Dakota, Iowa, Minnesota and Nebraska will discover a world of career opportunities in the health care industry during Health Happenings at the University of South Dakota on Monday, Nov. 11.

The event-filled day begins with registration at 8:30 a.m. at the Muenster University Center and features a keynote address from Cassity Gutierrez, Ph.D., assistant professor of health sciences at USD, as well as breakout sessions to be supervised by practicing professionals in specific health science interests, including addiction studies, bio-medical research, clinical psychology, dentistry, nursing, kinesiology and sports science, and radiology and medical imaging. Also scheduled are a Health Sciences Fair and a luncheon with members of the USD faculty and health care professionals.

High school students participating at Health Happenings will be able to meet directly with faculty and health care specialists to learn more about preparing for a career in health sciences; and discuss educational and career information with counselors from the USD Office of Admissions to address questions regarding the USD application process and scholarship opportunities. Tours of campus will also be provided.
