VERMILLION, S.D. -- The Psi Chapter of Alpha Phi at the University of South Dakota is hosting its second annual “Go Red Week” at the Munster University Center, Feb. 3-7. Events begin at 6:30 p.m. on Monday, Feb. 3 with a Zumba-a-Thon and conclude with a blood donation event on Friday, Feb. 7.

Additional “Go Red Week” philanthropy events include Hoops for Hearts with the men of PIKE from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 4 at the MUC Pit Lounge; Kiss, Slap, Hug on Thursday, Feb. 6 and, on Friday, Feb. 7, students, faculty and staff are encouraged to join the women of Alpha Phi in wearing red and donating blood at the Muenster University Center.

On Wednesday, Feb. 5, Alpha Phi and the gentlemen of Sigma Alpha Epsilon will raise money for heart health with the third annual Cardiac Arrest. Prominent campus members will be “arrested” and placed in jail until someone bails them out. Money donated as bail will go directly to the Alpha Phi Foundation.

Additionally during “Go Red Week,” hearts with the names of the participants or in honor of people affected by cardiac conditions will be on display in the MUC. Anyone who purchases a kiss, slap or hug will sign their name and it will be delivered to a student of their choice.  Proceeds from all of these events will go directly to the Alpha Phi Foundation, which supports causes that raise awareness and research funds for women’s heart health.

Alpha Phi was founded at Syracuse University in 1872 as one of the first Greek societies for women. The organization is comprised of more than 150 collegiate chapters and more than 130 alumnae chapters throughout the United States and Canada.
