‘Shades’ is featured exhibit at University Art Galleries

VERMILLION, S.D. -- The University Art Galleries at the University of South Dakota announces the opening of the exhibition, “Shades: Contemporary Drawing,” featuring the work of Al Denyer, Chris Ganz, Shelby Shadwell and Michael Sleadd. The exhibition, curated by USD Associate Professor of Art Phillip Michael Hook, is on display in the John A. Day Gallery through Friday, March 28. A closing reception is slated for 5 p.m. on March 28.
 

Denyer’s work has been published in New American Paintings, American Art Collector, Western Humanities Review and Leonardo, The International Society For The Arts, Sciences And Technology Magazine. She has an M.F.A. from Southern Illinois University and a B.A. from the Winchester School of Art in England. Shelby actively exhibits across the nation and was recently featured in the International Drawing Annual 5 and 6 publications through the Manifest Creative Research Gallery and Drawing Center in Cincinnati, Ohio. He is currently an assistant professor in the art department at the University of Wyoming and actively exhibits across the nation. Ganz, an associate professor of printmaking and drawing at Indiana-Purdue University Fort Wayne, also shows his prints across the nation. His exhibition highlights include winning “Best in Show”for the South Bend Museum of Art Biennial in 2009, and twice winning the grand prize for the Contemporary Realism: Fort Wayne Museum of Art’s National Biennialin 2008 and 2010. Sleadd has been drawing with pen and ink for four decades, and his prints and drawings have appeared in one-man and group shows regionally and nationally. He holds an M.F.A. in graphic design and drawing from the University of Missouri-Columbia and is currently the chair of the Columbia College Art Department where he teaches advanced drawing, graphic design and illustration.
