Sanford School of Medicine students to receive McVay Award for case study

VERMILLION, S.D. -- Anthony Loewen and Spencer Schilling, Sanford School of Medicine students, are recipients of the South Dakota Chapter of the American College of Surgeons Chester B. McVay, M.D. Award for their clinical paper, “Case Report: Hormone Receptor Positive, HER2/Neu Negative Inflammatory Breast Cancer in Male Patient.”

Loewen of Huron, S.D. and Schilling of Sioux Falls, S.D., will receive $500 and a plaque at the joint South Dakota/North Dakota American College of Surgeons annual meeting at 3 p.m. on Friday, April 25. The students will also be presenting their case study at the annual meeting. Loewen and Schilling are both third year medical students on the Yankton Campus in the Yankton Ambulatory Program.

The South Dakota Chapter of the American College of Surgeons established the $500 award in the name of Chester B. McVay, who was a professor and former chair of surgery at the University of South Dakota School of Medicine.
