Psychological Services Center
SERVICES
Treatment:
The Psychological Services Center is an outpatient clinic which provides
treatment services to children, adults, couples, and families through a
variety of modalities including brief, longer term, individual, martial,
family, and group psychotherapy. All services are confidential.
Testing and Evaluation:
Intellectual and personality assessments for schools, physicians, Social
Services, Vocational Rehabilitation and other agencies and professionals
are provided. Neuropsychological screens are also available.
Consultation and Testing:
Consultation to professionals and agencies on individual cases and general
program is available from the clinical faculty and doctoral students.
This service also provides assistance in the development of new programs
and is not limited to interventions of a clinical nature.
Training workshops on a wide variety of topics may be arranged for individual
and groups. Examples include Stress Management, Eating Disorders, Child
Abuse, Depression, Spouse abuse, and Suicide Prevention.
HOTLINE
THE HOTLINE SERVICE HAS BEEN DISCONTINUED.
There are a couple of alternatives for after-hour
telephone crises services, which include the Lewis and Clark Behavioral
Health Services in Yankton at 1-800-765-3382 and a 24-hour community informatiion
and crisis line in Sioux Falls called the "HELPline" at 605-339-4357.
This service also provides the state of South Dakota with crisis and emergency
service and information for suicide, 1-800-SUICIDE.
LOCATION
The center is located in Vermillion on the main campus of the University
of South Dakota. It is housed in the first floor of the Old South Dakota
Union building across form the intersection of Clark and Harvard streets.
Upon entering the building, take a left and enter the Center through the
set of glass double doors (room 112).
PROCEDURES
Services are provided in part by clinical faculty, but primarily by doctoral
students in clinical psychology who are time of referral or initial contact
a screening interview will be scheduled. The purpose of this interview
is to determine the nature of the presenting problem and its appropriateness
for overview if Center policies and procedures is offered and a fee for
service is set during this time. From this interview, the specific type
of treatment/evaluation is prescribed and the client(s) is referred to
a therapist in the Center.
PURPOSE
The Psychological Services Center at the University of South Dakota is
part of the American Psychological Association accredited doctoral training
program in Clinical Psychology. The Center is comprised by licensed psychologists
who comprise the clinical faculty and approximately 30 doctoral students.
The Center provides a variety of psychological services to individuals,
couples, families, and groups. It serves as a teaching, training, and research
center supported by the Department of Psychology and the University.
FEES
A one time only assessment fee of $10.00 is charged to all clients and
is due at the end to the first therapy session. In addition to this, no
other charges are due for full time USD students. Part time USD students,
faculty and staff, and their immediate families are charged one-half the
normal sliding scale fee.
HOURS
Monday through Friday from 8:00am to 5:00pm (except for the noon hours)
and Monday and Wednesday 5:00pm to 7:00pm during the academic year.
