The University of South Dakota prides itself on a diverse portfolio of scholarship, from artistic performance to medical inventions. In many ways, USD's modest size but significant scholarly diversity presents an excellent opportunity to engage faculty in focused, distinctive interdisciplinary work. Such efforts push the boundaries of imagination and discovery and enrich students' experiences. USD researchers collaborate across departments and programs as well as with other institutions and national labs.

Proposals & Funding

Funding for research and creative work at USD comes from external sources (government agencies, foundations, private corporate partners) as well as focused internal programs. Whatever the source, the competition for financial project support is clear. The Office of Research and Sponsored Programs provides assistance and consultation to support faculty and student researchers and scholars in their efforts to gain a competitive edge. Sponsored Programs staff members manage a rapidly growing number of funding applications from USD, submitting nearly 350 proposals per year.
