Government Relations
Senators Tim Johnson and John Thune and Representative Kristi Noem are our Congressional Delegation in Washington, DC. Over the years, federal funds have helped grow research in medicine, alternative energy, and other projects important in South Dakota. Recent federal appropriations that have enabled USD to better serve the state and nation include:

Lee Med Memorial Building, $1,896,774 (Johnson)
- Graduate Education and Applied Research Center
Construction, $1,968,320 and $2,307,853 (Daschle)
Equipment, $94,352 and $282,150 (Johnson) - South Dakota Catalysis Group, $1,052,000 (Thune) and $1,046,650 (Thune and Johnson)
- REED Network, $381,000 (Johnson)

- Functional Magnetic Resonance Imaging (fMRI) for PTSD and TBI research and service, $800,000 (Herseth Sandlin)
In addition, our Congressional Delegation has long supported the EPSCoR and IDeA programs, which provide funds to build research projects and infrastructure. These programs help make South Dakota and other states with small populations and primarily agricultural economies more competitive in the current knowledge-based economy.
