Materials Research

USD's materials research offers a rich variety of accomplishments in biomedical engineering, chemistry, and physics. USD researchers collaborate with industry professionals to bring new technologies to market as well as carrying out fundamental research to enhance human health and the environment.

Materials research included antimicrobial materials for protective clothing, medical and dental devices, and sanitized surfaces; drug-eluting stents for the successful treatment of Coronary Artery Disease; engineered tissues to repair damaged joints; cost-effective solar energy alternatives; decomposition of pollutants in air or water; and the development of highly pure, detector-grade germanium crystals to search for new forms of energy.
