Coiled Trumpet by Steinmez, Imperial City of Nürnberg, before 1694
NMM 4013.
Coiled trumpet by Georg Friedrich Steinmez,
Imperial City of Nürnberg, before 1694. The bell of this instrument is significantly larger than the bells found on the NMM's other natural trumpets made in Nürnberg. Current research suggests that it may be one of a group of transitional coiled instruments that led to the development of the horn, while still retaining some features of its trumpet ancestry. Gift of Barbara and Burton E. Hardin, Charleston, Illinois,
1986.
