Brown Bag Lunch Programs are free and open to the public. They begin at 12:05 and end at 12:55 PM. Bring a brown bag lunch. Or, if you prefer to eat early, late, or not at all, please join us anyway. Coffee and tea will be available for 50 cents.
The NMM's public programming is underwritten by South Dakota Arts Council support provided through the S. D. Department of Tourism and State Development and the National Endowment for the Arts, the USD Student Association, and the members of The Stradivari Society, a fund-raising initiative of the Museum's Board of Trustees.
Note: All events are held in the Arne B. Larson Concert Hall, unless otherwise noted.

Conference, Celebrating the 500th Birthday of Andrea Amati, "The Secrets, Lives, and Violins of the Great Cremona Makers 1505-1744." The National Music Museum presents a four-day conference to explore the methods and workshops of the great Cremonese makers as well as the cultural and economic influences of the times, including concerts and a banquet.

Brown bag lunch program, Heart's Compass: Pioneer Women's Journeys, an account of pioneer women crossing the Plains in the 19th century. Deb Carpenter and Lyn Messersmith present original poems, songs, and stories, as well as actual diary entries of women who journeyed on the Oregon Trail. Made possible with a Resource Center grant from the South Dakota Humanities Council, an affiliate of the National Endowment for the Humanities. 12:05 p.m. Free.

Celebrating Great American Guitarsat the National Music Museum Gallery Opening and Conference
National guitar conference and opening of the Lillibridge Gallery and a major, permanent exhibition, Great American Guitars, featuring the D'Angelico/D'Aquisto/Gudelsky Workshop Collection—given in memory of Paul Gudelsky (1963-1996)—along with guitars from the John R. Barmeyer and Brian Fischer Collections and others. Friday afternoon and all day Saturday, closing with a free, Saturday evening concert by Thom Bresh, the great Nashville guitarist and entertainer (details below). Thom Bresh and the late Johnny Cash hold a 1969 Martin guitar, once owned and played by Thom's father, the legendary Merle Travis. Bresh, a Hall of Famer and one of today's leading guitar players, whether it be country-western, folk, or jazz, will play this guitar and Johnny Cash's Bon Aqua, both from the NMM's collections, as well as his own Super Dualette by Del Langejans. T. Wilson King of Vermillion will be the opening act.
