NMM 2375. Arched harp (saùng-gauk), Burma, 20th century. Sixteen silk strings attached to neck by red cotton tuning cords terminating in large tassels. Boat-shaped resonator with neck carved from a root. Neck terminates in highly decorated representation of Bo-tree leaf. Decorated with pieces of mica ("Mandalay pearls"), glass, gilt, red and black paint. Stand similarly decorated. Grace L. Beede Fund, 1978. |
