Engraved on German-silver plaque at bell: M. Slater, / Maker, / N.Y.
Moses Slater manufactured instruments under his own name between 1874-1888. His 1874 catalog distinguishes between B-flat cornets for orchestral and street band use, whereas it offers only one E-flat cornet model, which resembles this instrument.
Body: Brass with German-silver garland, mounts, and touchpieces. Single-looped tubing: leadpipe with telescopic tuning slide; valve segment; conical first bow; conical bell bow and bellpipe in one integral part; Saxon rim.
Valves: Three top-action, string-operated rotary valves. Spiral-spring return mechanisms; reciprocal driver pivot stopped by V-shaped cork buffers. Internal slide tubing. Windway: first, second, third valve.
Accessories: later German-silver-plated brass cornet mouthpiece.
Sounding length: 894 mm; internal diameter, leadpipe: 11 mm; bore diameter (inner valve slides) 10.9 mm; bell diameter: 116 mm.
