William F. Seefeldt, a native of Prussia, is listed in the 1860 U.S. census as a musical instrument maker working out of his own shop, established in Philadelphia in 1858. This trumpet, which features handmade rotors, dates from this early stage of his career.

Signature stamped on bell:
W. SEEFELDT / PHILAAAD A
Body: Brass with single-looped tubing: leadpipe; valve cluster; Bell and bell bow with continuous, overlapping tab seam. Undecorated German-silver garland with plain upper edge and Saxon rim.
Accessories: none
Sounding length: 1262 mm; internal diameter, leadpipe: 10.1 mm; bore diameter (inner valve slides) 11.4 mm; bell diameter: 126 mm.
Valves
Valves: Three top-action, string-operated rotary valves. Flat-spring return mechanisms; reciprocal driver pivot stopped by cork buffers on horseshoe plate. Internal slide tubing. Windway: first, second, third valve.
