NMM 5582. Violin, Markneukirchen and/or Schönbach (Luby), ca. 1870-1900. Printed paper label, the surface abraded to simulate wear, the last two digits of year written in black ink: Gaspar
da Salo in Brescia / 1580. Very thin double purfling. Three concentric, six-pointed stars of inlaid purfling at center of back, enclosing six-petal flower of inlaid purfling, with missing center. Soundholes are significantly wider at notches than is usually found on mass-produced violins. Gift of Mrs. Harry C. Helm, Columbia, Tennessee, 1993.
