Palmer Roe Plays His Barrel 'Cello

Palmer N. Roe (1888-1966) of Canton, South Dakota,
plays a 'cello which he made out of a barrel in 1955 (NMM 843. Barrel
cello by Palmer N. Roe, Canton, 1955. Arne B. Larson Collection, 1979).
Roe served in France in W.W. I, was a deputy county sheriff, and
made and played several unusual instruments, including a stove-pipe 'cello
and a pitch-fork 'cello, now preserved at the Museum.
