Student Computer Requirements

The University of South Dakota has been ranked as one of the nation's "most wired" campuses, and with our wireless network coverage, a laptop offers you the most flexibility for your classes and other activities.

A personal computer is important to your academic and communication needs at college. Here are some tips on how to select a computer that meets your needs at USD.

Academic Requirements

The following academic programs will require a laptop or tablet computer. You will need to come to campus with a computer meeting the recommended configuration if you will be starting at USD in one of these programs.

Computer Discounts

Discounts on personal computers are available to all university faculty, staff and students. Information regarding these discounts is detailed below. If you are enrolled in one of the academic programs listed above, be sure to make your purchase using the links provided above.

Computer Hardware Requirements

Warranty services are available on hardware issues for computers that qualify for Ultimate Computer Support or Premium Computer Support.  If you have a computer that does not qualify for Ultimate or Premium computer support, please contact your vendor to request warranty services. 

All computers must meet the minimum Hardware Requirements to connect to the USD network. If purchasing a new computer, ITS recommends exceeding these minimum requirements for optimum performance.

Computer Software Requirements

To maintain a safe computing environment for everyone, all computers connecting to the USD Network must have an anti-virus and up-to-date security patches installed on their computer.
