Upward Bound is intended to prepare disadvantaged high school students for successful entry into and completion of post secondary education.

The Upward Bound Program will provide supervision, counseling, tutoring, instruction and various educational/cultural/recreational activities in an educational setting during the summer component. During the academic year, the program staff will make monthly trips to visit students, parents and school personnel. In addition, the program will arrange for tutoring, counseling or other help the student might need.

Program Expectations Parents are expected to provide the support and encouragement necessary for the student to improve their class participation, attendance, and grades.

Students are expected to enter the program voluntarily and to fully understand that it is a program intended to improve their academic skills and to help them identify their educational goals. It is expected that students in the Upward Bound Program will adhere to the following guidelines:

  • Upward Bound students will maintain excellent school attendance.
  • Upward Bound students will maintain grades to the best of their abilities.
  • Upward Bound students will complete the monthly Upward Bound assignments and monthly instructor reports.
  • Upward Bound students are expected to maintain cooperative behavior with school personnel, program staff and fellow students.
Once accepted to Upward Bound, students can expect to participate in the Upward Bound Program until they graduate from high school. The summer after their high school graduation, students complete their Upward Bound experience by taking their first college courses. Failure to adhere to these guidelines at a level acceptable to the Upward Bound program may result in a student being temporarily or permanently removed from participation in the Upward Bound Program.
