Application Deadlines

International students interested in applying for undergraduate admission must meet the following requirements and submit the required materials by the application deadline:

  • 1 July - for students applying for the fall semester
  • 15 October - for students applying for the spring semester
    (International students are admitted for the fall or spring semester only)Transfer Admission Requirements
International Admission Requirements

Students applying to the University who are not United States citizens must meet the following standards:

 
  • Perform satisfactorily on the TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language):
    • minimum score of 530 or higher (paper test)
    • minimum score of 71 or higher (iBT)
      or                        
  • Perform satisfactorily on the International English Language Testing System (IELTS)
    • minimum score of 5.5 or higher 
      OR 
    • Demonstrations of English Language Proficiency via:
    • International students who graduated from an American High School may be eligible to have their TOEFL waived if they have a 2.6 or higher GPA
      AND
      an ACT Writing sub score of 21 or higher
      OR
      an SAT Critical Reading sub score of 500 or higher and Writing sub score of 500 or higher. 
    • Satisfactory completion of Northern State University's Intensive English Program
  • Applicants from English speaking Canada, Australia, and the UK are not required to submit a TOEFL or IELTS score. If you are from one of these three countries and you have a 500 on both the Critical Reading and Writing portions of the SAT, your TOEFL or IELTS requirement may be waived.
  • Achieve a secondary school (high school) grade point average equivalent to 2.6 on a 4.0 scale  
  • Prove financial ability to pay for the entire program of study  
  • Submit official scores for the ACT Assessment (ACT) or Scholastic Aptitude Test (SAT) for first- time college students

Certification of Finances Original bank statement indicating the amount of funds necessary to attend the University of South Dakota
   
Official TOEFL scores Official scores for the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) or International English Language Testing System (IELTS)
   
Official
Transcripts		 Official transcripts of all secondary and post-secondary school studies 
 
A transcript report from Educational Credential Evaluators (ECE) must be received in addition to your official transcripts
   
Other First-time undergraduates who are in the United States as exchange students, completing high school in the Unites States or are completing English as a Second Language (ESL) at another school, need to complete the transfer form to have their SEVIS record transferred to The University of South Dakota.
