| There may have been inhabitants of
Corsica and Sardinia since 7000 BC. We can see a lot of pottery and
rock formations. For the next 6000 years there is
limited documentation on the extent of civilization and international
interaction., but we do have enough to understand the inhabitants were
technologically in step with the rest of the world. One group known as
the Ozieri, ca 4000-3200, made rock-cut tombs called domus de janas
or "witches' houses". One of the most interesting items of
Corsican
prehistory were the monoliths, or Souls Statues. These head
stones, roughly 7ft tall, were coarsely carved to resemble the soul of
the dead person. By the turn of the first millennium the islands
were very much apart of the Mediterranean economy and had direct trade
with Cyprus. |
