Culture and Other Tidbits.

This is the Temple of the sun, which was a pagan temple built in the Hellenistic period. After the adoption of Christianity, this temple was turned into a summer residence for the kings and their families. When this was done, the temple was refinished in third-century Roman architectural style (as picturesd). It had hot baths that were warmed by heated air which passed through ceramic pipes laid underneath the floor. A Greek inscription is present and reads, "we worked without remuneration." This is a good example of Romanization after Armenia passed out of Rome's control.

This is the pagan temple of Garni which was used before the Sun Temple. After the Sun Temple was built, this was also used as a summer residence of the Kings.
