YEAR 3
USD GOALS & OBJECTIVES
GOAL 1: Develop a respectful and nurturing environment for fostering
interest of Native American students into the field of psychology/human
services.
Objective A: Obtain cultural consultation and guidance for developing
a welcoming environment, fostering relationships, and faculty and student
professional development.
Objective B: Develop and implement an orientation program for Native
American undergraduate and graduate Psychology students and their families.
Objective C: Develop and implement an outreach program for Native American
high school and undergraduate students with a potential interest in
Psychology/Human Services.
Objective D: Establish collaborative recruitment efforts between the
four institutions for Native American students interested in Psychology/Human
Services careers.
GOAL 2: Create and maintain a communicative environment
between students, faculty, staff, and institutions that provides a professional
dialogue to ensure a sense of safety within which to share ones
ideas and feelings, balanced with a commitment to be accountable for
the consequences of ones communications and actions.
Objective A: Foster supportive student and faculty relationships
within and between the involved institutions.
Objective B: Foster faculty understanding of Native American student
issues and experiences.
GOAL 3: Facilitate, assist, and encourage Native American
students to find ways to integrate the field of human services/science
of psychology into their world view.
Objective A: Develop and maintain practicum sites
for Native American clinical psychology graduate students in Native
American communities.
Objective B: Accommodate, support, and encourage Native American students
to mentor Native students at earlier levels of training/education.
Objective C: Establish collaborative research/teaching/service projects
among Psychology/Human Services faculty of the four institutions.
GOAL 4: Assist and support Native American students as
they identify, maintain, and evolve their professional and personal
visions within a framework that recognizes their possible ties and commitments
to their tribal communities.
Objective A: Support Native American students
exploration of career interests, values, learning style, skills, abilities,
visions as they develop their professional identities.
