Collegium of Saint Sebesta

 Article I:  Name

 Be it known unto all present, that the University of South Dakota, Society for Creative Anachronism affiliate is doing business as: Collegium of Saint Sebesta.

 Article II: Purpose

 The Society for Creative Anachronism (hereinafter referred to as SCA), and its University of South Dakota affiliate, Collegium of Saint Sebesta, is a not-for-profit education organization. The aforementioned organization is comprised of people who are dedicated to the study and recreation of the medieval time period. This study will cover the lifestyles, customs, arts/crafts, sciences, combat (military standards), chivalry, and all the things deemed appropriate to human conduct pursuant to the Medieval time period. The execution of the preceding will be in the form of demonstrations, exhibitions, and organized events on both large and small scales. The membership agrees to abide by University and Regents policies regarding the use of  weapons.

 Article III:  Membership

 As per University regulations, the composition of the group membership will be of no less than 60 (sixty) percent current University f South Dakota students. Members will be required to show active participation in the furthering of SCA’s purpose. This will be shown by actively participating in any and all activities sponsored by the SCA and/or Collegium of Saint Sebesta. Local members of the Collegium of St. Sebesta need not join as fully paid members of SCA proper.

 Article IV: Officers

 As per SCA regulations, there are a minimum number of official positions that are required of any affiliation. These positions are created and kept in place to insure the proper maintenance and conduct of business. The minimal official positions required are as follows: 1: One Seneschal.  2. One Herald.  3. One Marshall.

 The duties of the aforementioned official positions are as follows:

 Seneschal:             The Seneschal performs the duties of the chief executive officer relative to the administration of organization business, i.e. paperwork and reports.

 Herald:                   The position of herald is unique to the structure of the SCA. This position is responsible for assisting members with appropriate Medieval name choice and family/clan identification artwork (heraldry). This position is also responsible for the announcing of activities [pursuant to special events and occasions. These occasions are known in the SCA by such names as Courts (Royal and/or Noble), and Tournaments (Sporting Events).

 Marshall:               This position is responsible for the training, authorization , and safe conduct of all fighters engaged in chivalric combat. The Marshall is also responsible for the maintenance of equipments that relate to the pursuance of chivalric combat.  This position is a requirement of all SCA affiliations if there are members who are 18 (eighteen) years of age, or 16 (sixteen) years of ages (with parental/legal guardian consent), who have an interest in the arts of combat.

 Exchequer:                An exchequer is final requirement so an SCA affiliate, if said affiliate holds funds

This position is the equivalent of a treasurer. The exchequer’s duties include year-end reporting of funds collected for affiliate-exclusive purposes. The aforementioned “affiliate-exclusive purposes” are to be defined as: Those activities that are exclusive to the Collegium of Saint Sebesta, and those activities must fall in line with standards set forth by the SCA at the corporate level. All year-end reports are sent to the SCA main corporate office by the exchequer. In the event of a bank account being opened on behalf of an affiliate, all withdrawals and checks will require the signature of the exchequer, and only the signature of the exchequer. Copies of the year-end reports will be made available to the USD student association office, and to any other appropriate office as is necessary. Year-end reports are sent in order to comply with national, state, and local taxation laws.

 Other officer positions may be filled as needed, but are not required. Any and all officers may have deputies. These deputies are to be chosen upon recognition of their abilities to aid in assisting a particular officer’s duties

 Officers and regular members have equal individual voting powers and privileges.

 Article V:  Officer Selection

 Officers volunteer their time, and are confirmed in their positions by a majority show of favor during regular business meetings. As per SCA regulations, officers must have paid international, corporate level membership in the SCA, and be receiving SCA official publications in their place of residence.

 Officers who fail to perform their duties due to absenteeism will be removed and replaced by those individuals who possess the proper qualifications for official positions.

Active officers may be impeached due to demonstrated failure to uphold the duties and responsibilities of an office. This shall be accomplished by a 2/3rds (two-thirds) majority vote of the membership in attendance at a regular business meeting.

Officers may serve until such time as they voluntarily resign, or are replaced according to the above stated criteria. Offices may remain unfilled only if the offices are those of deputies. Those listed in Article IV: Officers, must be filled at all times.

Article VI: Finances

The organization will be funded through donations and fundraisers.

 Money will be spent to purchase items for group use(s). The use(s) that the money shall be put to are: events, donations of periodical SCA subscriptions an other SCA media to I. D. Weeks Library, and other purposes which are agreed upon by the attending membership at regular business meetings.

 Article VIII: Constitutional Amendment

 This constitution may and can be amended by a 2/3rds (two-thirds) majority vote of the membership in attendance during regular business meetings. All members must be notified by a copy of the proposed amendment(s) at least 2 (two) weeks in advance of a regular business meeting for discussion of and voting on said amendment(s).

 Any member with a valid concern may propose a change to the constitution during regular business meetings.

 Article VIII: Disclaimer

 The Collegium of Saint Sebesta is not an agent or representative of the University of South Dakota or the USD Student Association, and its views and actions in no way represent the University of South Dakota or the USD Student Association.

 Constitutional Amendments to the Constitution of the Collegium of St. Sebesta

 Amendment I:

 Pursuant to number of checks required in the establishment of deposition, and/or withdrawal of monies from the Collegium of St. Sebesta’s checking account, there must be required four (4) signatures to effect the aforementioned transactions. The signatures for the establishment of the checking account will be: the exchequer’s, the seneschal’s, one other SCA affiliate member (whoever is available), and the Kingdom Exchequer’s. During regular business transactions requiring checks, two (2) signatures must be present on the checks.
