Tiospaye kin, tanyan ya hi pi!

To our extended family   encompassing all the different nations, it's good that you came to visit! Welcome!

The United States is home to more than 4 million American Indian peoples. Over 10% of South Dakota's population is American Indian, giving U students a rich and unique environment in which to appreciate and gain knowledge about American Indian peoples.

The American Indian Studies program gives you the education, research and experience to prepare for living and working in a multicultural world. The program's interdisciplinary curriculum includes American Indian thought, anthropology, art history, criminal justice, education, English, history, Lakota language, pre-law, pre-medicine, oral history, philosophy, political science, sociology, psychology, Siouan Tribal Culture, and women's studies.

Dr. Kurt Hackemer, Acting Chair
Department of American Indian Studies
