Sheeks graduated from USD in 1913. 1929-1930 - Miss University, riding in a specially decorated automobile, is leading the Dakota day parade. 1929-1930 - Dakota Days float with the Coyote On Top of the World. 1934 - Students arriving in Vermillion by train utilized the Milwaukee/St. Paul Railroad. 1934 - The Women's Rifle Team, under the direction of Sergeant Kilbourn, had a successful season, winning nine out of thirteen intercollegiate matches. Date unknown - Observatory. Date unknown - Old Law Building (Arts & Sciences Building). 1951 - Backstage at the Miss University contest. 1958 - Backstage at the Miss University contest. 1952 - Home economics classes were held in the north end of Dakota Hall, which also housed the girls’ dormitory. Here we see Mrs. Amy Eastman teaching a foods class. This room had several individual “kitchens” for students to use. 1953 – Deadwood businessman and promoter of tourism, Fred Borsch and his coyote Tootsie graced USD at Dakota days in 1953. In 1947, Fred and his wife Esther were given the coyote pup found by Ollie Wiswell at the base of Custer Peak in the Black Hills. 1955 - The university co-operative store, which was located on the first floor of the Union Building, was a student-owned, student-operated facility in which students could buy books and supplies as well as lunch and fountain drinks. Date unknown - The co-operative store (Coop's) as it was referred to on campus. The workers were popular figures on campus, and the employment was controlled so no more than 2 students from the same fraternity would be employed at any given time. 1957 - Students used the basement of East Hall to dry their laundry. 1958 - In 1958, USD received a substantial loan to build Cypress Court and an addition to Julian Hall. Cypress Court consisted of 40 small apartments and was inhabited by married students. Redwood Court joined the neighborhood two years later in 1960. 1950 commencement - Some years the graduates proceeded from the Armory (Belbas) to the Danforth Chapel, while other years they proceeded from Old Main to Slagle Hall.
