Be Effective

Our minor will prepare you to be effective citizen leaders in both public and private organizations.

Our civic leadership program is deliberately limited to only 20 students per year, so that faculty can provide close mentorship for each student.

Students may petition the director for a specific section to replace one of the required courses. The following is a sample of some courses that may qualify (some courses have prerequisites, which apply).

The Classroom & Beyond

  • The Legacy of Leadership Award seeks to recognize exemplary students, teachers, citizens and state leaders in South Dakota.

  • Farber Center hosts the annual American Legion Auxiliary Girls State program, which is designed to teach female high school juniors about civic participation.

  • We annually host Farber Forums, programs designed to offer students and the public insight into national and state politics, campaigns and elections, public administration, and international relations.
