CLIKS

KIDS COUNT is a project of the Annie E. Casey Foundation. It is a national and state-by-state effort to track the status of children in the United States. The goal is to improve the collection of national, state, and local data on the well-being of children in a way that increases awareness of their situation and provides the means to address their needs.

The South Dakota Kids Count project produces a yearly Factbook. A fact bulletin, county summary for selected data items, and a pocket guide are produced, which provide a brief synopsis of the data in the Factbook.

County, City, Community-Level Information on Kids

CLIKS is a powerful new tool for community leaders, policymakers, service providers, parents, and others who want to examine local factors that affect the lives of children and families. The site features community profiles, color-coded maps and graphs, as well as the ability to rank communities within states on measures of child well-being. With these dynamic tools, users can get a snapshot of their local community, compare it to other communities within their state, and even chart how their community has been changing on certain indicators over a number of years.

The unique system allows users to access state-specific inventories of local data reflecting the well-being of children from sources such as health departments, human services agencies, and schools.
