“Never underestimate the variety of amazing opportunities that our university provides.”

Allison Buss – Sioux Falls, SD
Degree/Major: Bachelor of Business Administration (B.B.A.), Human Resource Management
2015

I chose USD because I felt at home on the campus and I could sense the rich history of all those who came before me. I learned more and more about the wide variety of opportunities that would be available to me, and I knew I had made the right decision.

I was inspired by Chet Barney, Ph.D. In his Organizational Behavior and Theory course, I learned so many interesting concepts about the inner workings of organizations. This inspired me to take more human resource management classes.

My favorite part about USD is the amazing experience it provides. I have been able to thrive as a student and a leader thanks to all of the opportunities that I found here. When I was approached by a professor to join the Society for Human Resource Management, I could tell that the professors here are truly dedicated, and they care about the success and involvement of their students. Our school is big enough to provide excellent opportunities and resources, yet small enough to enable great professor relations.

In addition to my studies, I am the president of USD's chapter of the Society for Human Resource Management which has allowed me to learn more about my major than I could have in a classroom. Pi Beta Phi sorority is another organization in which I have been able to hone my leadership skills while creating lifelong bonds with my fellow members. I am thankful for the wide variety of opportunities that are available to every student at USD, and I am proud to study business in the nationally-respected and fully-accredited Beacom School of Business.
