Welcome to the Art Department

In today's world of increasingly visual communications, professional artists have an impact on almost every aspect of contemporary life. As a visual artist your career options include showing and selling your own work, advertising, web design, broadcasting, museum professions, interior design, education and more.

The U's Art Program is South Dakota's only art program accredited by the National Association of Schools of Art and Design. Art at the U offers you unique and cutting edge preparation for a professional and visual arts career, with a balance of scholarship and creative development. The U offers the professional BFA (Bachelor of Fine Arts) and BFA/Art Education undergraduate degrees and the graduate studio degree of MFA (Master of Fine Arts). Emphasis areas include art education, photography, painting, printmaking, sculpture, graphic design, multimedia, ceramics and art history.

The Art Department is part of the College of Fine Arts, South Dakota's only fine arts college offering the BFA and MFA degrees.
