Farber Center for Civic Leadership

/ctrcivic/images/logo.gif Civic leaders are often inherently dynamic, visionary men and women.  But the most successful civic leaders have also worked hard to develop tools with which they can put vision into action.

The U's Civic Leadership program focuses on public leadership skills with courses in political science, business administration, psychology, and sociology - tools critical to helping individuals and communities identify, address, and resolve public problems.

Civic Leadership is an 18-hour minor designed to complement any major at the U.  Both the Master of Arts in Political Science and the Master of Public Administration degrees offer an emphasis in Leadership Studies.

The Farber Center's Civic Leadership program is the only Leadership program in the state and the oldest, most well-established program in the Midwest.  The Templeton Foundation has identified the program as one of the best of its kind in the nation and lists the U among its COLLEGES THAT ENCOURAGE CHARACTER DEVELOPMENT.

The South Dakota Board of Regents established the W.O. Farber Center for Civic Leadership in the fall of 1997 as a Center of Excellence. The Center is housed within the Department of Political Science.
